Skin looking dull? Getting break outs AND wrinkles? Here's some helpful advice from Dallas, Texas esthetician and skin care expert, Renée Rouleau.
I STILL CAN GET BREAK OUTS, YET I'M STARTING TO SEE THE SIGNS OF AGING. ACNE PRODUCTS DRY MY SKIN OUT AND ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS MAKE MY SKIN GREASY AND CLOG MY PORES. HOW DO I PROPERLY CARE FOR BOTH MY WRINKLES AND BREAK OUTS?
The most effective way to treat both wrinkles and breakouts is to give your skin the balance it needs. Drying out your skin with harsh acne products make break outs worse by trapping oil and bacteria in the skin, beneath the dead skin cell build up resulting in more break outs. When your skin is dried out, it certainly doesn't help with wrinkles because your skin cells are like fish and they need water to live. Without water, you'll cause premature aging of the skin. So bottom line, drying out your skin makes both wrinkles and break outs worse! To give your skin the balance it needs, you need to use a skin care routine designed exclusively for the unique needs of your skin. Renée Rouleau offers products based on nine skin types, so you're sure to give your skin exactly what your skin needs. And in this case, it's less break outs and a reduced appearance of lines and wrinkles. Look at our nine skin types by clicking here.
MY SKIN LOOKS DULL AND IT NO LONGER HAS A GLOW. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
As we age, everything tends to slow down in the body, including blood circulation. The result can be sluggish, dull skin. Try incorporating products containing vasodilators. This includes ingredients such as Peppermint, Rosemary and Ginseng, which work to give the skin a pick-me-up! Try Renée Rouleau Revitalizing Ginseng Toner, Rosemary Mint Cleanser and Mint Buffing Beads. When applied topically to the skin, these ingredients work to dilate the blood vessels, therefore, allowing the skin to accommodate more nutrient-rich blood. With continued use, you can get skin that glows! Also, avoid cigarettes, caffeine, and alcohol, which can impair circulation. When applying your moisturizer, massage into the skin using firm circular motions to help increase blood flow. Also, mineral makeup is a great choice for giving your skin the look of radiant glowing skin. Renée Rouleau offers a wide selection of mineral makeup exlusively in our Texas skin care spas.
I TRAVEL A LOT FOR BUSINESS AND AM CONSTANTLY ON AIRPLANES. MY SKIN GETS TO DRY, WHAT CAN I DO?
the cabins of airplanes have extremely low humidity, which take a huge toll on your skin. The worst thing you can do is spray those water-based misters ont he skin. Why? Because the air is so dry, it looks for water wherever it can get it and since water attracts water, when you mist the skin it takes all the water from the deep layers in the skin and gets evaporated into the dry air! The result is even drier skin. Your best bet is the application of a rich oil-based moisturizer prior to flight to act as a protective sealant to retain the water in your skin. After the flight, treat your skin to a moisturizing mask, such as Renée Rouleau Pure Radiance Mask.
I HAVE CONSTANT BREAK OUTS AND CLOGGED PORES. HELP!
The first thing you need to do is identify the area on your face where you break out most often. As a general rule, chin and jawline breakout indicate too much dairy in your diet. Breakouts around the mouth can mean that you are eating too many berries; blueberries, strawberries, raspberries etc. Flare-ups on the cheeks and along the cheekbones indicate too much citrus; grapefruit, tomatoes (sauces, salsas) oranges or orange juice. The forehead area can break out as a result of too much sugar, caffeine, and an ingredient in hair conditioner called Panthenol. (It is a Vitamin B-5 which can do wonders for your hair, but can cause acne along the hairline and back.)
Avoid bar soaps or drying acne washes containing the ingredient Sodium or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate and SD 40 Alcohol-based toners. These drying agents create excessive dry skin cell buildup which will trap and clog oil in the pores leading to more breakouts! Increase your exfoliation with mild AHA's or gentle exfoliants which will free up the bacteria clogged in the pores. For a non-drying, breakout-fighting cleanser, try Renée Rouleau AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel (the winner of the 2007 Allure Best of Beauty award) and Tea Tree Anti-Blemish Lotion which helps to disinfect while keeping the surface of the skin hydrated and balanced.
Also, try drinking hot lemon water first thing in the morning to flush out bacteria in the small intestine-where most acne is formed.

WHAT CAUSES THE REDNESS ON MY FACE AND HOW CAN I MINIMIZE IT?
The redness is caused from an over circulation of the blood, resulting in visible dilated capillaries close to the surface of the skin. This is genetic, but is made more prominent by sun exposure, spicy foods, extreme temperatures, caffeine, cigarettes, hot showers and drinking alcohol. Taking Vitamin C with Bioflavnoids is helpful and topical use of soothing anti-inflammatory products like Renée Rouleau White Tea Soothing Complex will help to constrict blood vessels resulting in less redness.
But do you think that how you care for your skin could be making it more sensitive than it might normally be? A lot of people are on exfoliation overload. With the many skin benefits offered from exfoliation and the wide arrange of exfoliating products and services available, many people could be making their redness worse from over indulging in excessive exfoliation. When you over exfoliate, it will strip the skin leaving it more vulnerable to redness and sensitivity.
Avoid the use of harsh facial scrubs containing natural grains such as almond and apricot bits which can lacerate the skin and lead to excessive redness. Try gentle scrubs with round grains like Renée Rouleau Micro Crystal Cream.
Look for products that are not only for sensitive skin, but ones that help to soothe on contact and rebuild the skins lipid barrier. Try Renée Rouleau Phytolipid Comfort Cream and Moisture Infusion Toner.
Go easy on AHA's and enzyme exfoliation. These are definitely not for daily use. A few times a week is recommended.
